Red Tape, Organizational Performance, and Employee Outcomes: Meta?analysis, Meta?regression, and Research Agenda

Although there is consensus among scholars that red tape has negative consequences, a lack of synthesis on these effects. We conduct meta-analysis and meta-regression public administration evidence ask: What the impact organizational performance employee outcomes, which conditions moderate this impact? Our finds significant, negative, small-to-medium both outcomes. Meta-regression shows imposed by organization itself more harmful than external parties. Moreover, tape's remains quite stable across sectors, administrative traditions, research methods. In conclusion, an agenda for future presented. recommend syntheses include concepts bear family resemblance (e.g., sludge, burden) also encourage analyses differing discourses to identify common themes.
